Dr. Ceri Evans
Red Brain / Blue Brain← Phase I · Operator Mindset SyllabusUnder real pressure, your brain does not get smarter. It gets faster and dumber. Dr. Ceri Evans — forensic psychiatrist and former All Black — built Perform Under Pressure around one hard fact: the part of your brain that panics is older, faster, and louder than the part of your brain that thinks.
Red Brain is instinct: fast, emotional, defensive, threat-hunting. It kept your ancestors alive. It also makes you fire off a panicked email at 11pm, blow up a strategy after one bad week, and chase whatever the last blog post told you to chase.
Blue Brain is deliberate: slow, logical, evidence-driven. It is the only part of you capable of reading a traffic drop correctly.
A core update lands. Traffic drops 30%. Red Brain says: rewrite everything, kill the blog, buy links, panic. That reaction has destroyed more sites than any algorithm ever has.
Blue Brain says: isolate the affected URLs, segment by intent, compare against competitor movement, confirm it is not a tracking artifact, then adjust fire. Same event. Opposite outcome.
Evans' point is that you can train the transition. Slow the breath. Name the threat out loud. Narrow the decision to the next single action. Under fire, the operator who can drop from red to blue in ten seconds beats the genius who cannot.
Week 9 of the Operator Mindset Syllabus. The concept: Thinking Clearly Under Fire.
Discipline isn’t a slogan — it’s a process you can hire. Partner with an agency that owns the outcome.
